Backgammon Items for sale. These are items I am selling from my personal collection. Once they are gone, that's it. All are subject to prior sale.

Why would I rather sell for a set price?
I was thinking about selling these items as auctions on eBay, but I'd rather just get a fair price, so I'm listing a few items there, and linking those auctions to this site, in the hope that if you are interested in anything here, you will just make a reasonable offer, and I'll set up a buy it now auction for you on eBay. Lately on eBay, vintage backgammon sets with checkers of about 1.5 inch diameters or more have been selling for a lot of money. For example:
Item # 180168002520 was a brown/yellow checker Crisloid set with 1 11/16 inch diameter checkers. It sold for $249,i plus shipping from Canada.
Item #290172632374 was a green/yellow checker vintage Crisloid, just like the one I have here in red/yellow checkers. It sold for $152.50 plus $22.85 shipping (the checkers had the same diameter).
Item # 320168579341 was a vintage Crisloid with 1 11/16 inch diameter checkers set. It was like the red/yellow checkers set I have on this page, except that it was blue/yellow checkers, and it a bit better shape. It sold for $600 plus $62.40 shipping.
Item #110183487156 was a set of boxwood & ebony checkers, plus a box to store them in. It was described as "vintage." The turned wood checkers were only 3/4 of an inch in diameter, yet it sold for $96.10 plus $8 shipping to the USA. I mention this last set because I have a huge set of such checkers (2 inch diameter) that is not pictured on this page, which I would sell for only $125. In the past, I've had many offers in the $100 to $150 range on the sets you see here (except for the one with wood checkers - the red/white/blue set, which I'd take $50 for), and at this point, I'm willing to consider offers in this range. The two large sets and the green/yellow checkers ones would be $150, while the catalin Cardinal one would be $125 and the other bakelite ones would be $100.

No Reserve. I priced this at $50.01 so that you could use the $10 off eBay coupon (assuming you meet the requirements, of course, which are enforced by eBay, not me). My guess is that it's worth around $200 in a retail environment, possibly more. You can see a larger photo at: http://nju1.bizhosting.com/Backgammon3.html This is an old, full-size/tournament-size backgammon set. The checkers are 1 11/16 inches across. There are 16 of each color - not sure if they are bakelite/catalin or just a very hard plastic made a different way. The doubling cube has 1 inch sides. There are two leather dice cups. The board is felt and the "points" are woven into the felt. There are some minor discolorations on the felt; the points are near perfect, as it doesn't look like much backgammon was played on this set. The wood exterior has minor scuffs but no major scratches or gouges. There are two metal latches that hold the set together, and on them it says "Made in Germany." There is no other information. Since "Germany" didn't exist between 1945 and the late 1980s, it appears that this must be pre-1945, since it looks so old and well made. I don't know if the pieces are original, because this is how I purchased it. I did add the case that holds the 32 checkers, because it did not come with any a case and I didn't want the pieces to rattle around in there. The Hoyle dice in their original package appear to be quite old, but have no date on them. My guess is that the original dice were lost, and these were going to be used as a replacement, but nobody ever played on this set after that point. I will also include a very heavy duty canvas bag in great shape (not pictured here) so that you can carry this set around easily.

This is the correct doubling cube for the set with green and yellow checkers. It is about 1 inch per side.

This is a "Royal" Crisloid, missing the sticker. It is all original and features 1 11/16" diameter bakelite checkers and leather dice cups. There is some cork missing from the interiors of the dice cups and one of the latches has the small metal loop missing, which I'm guessing can be soldered back on. I don't know how to do that so I bought a leather belt for one side, just to be safe, though it will stay closed with just one latch working. The interior is in very good shape, and the checkers are great, with no problems. There is a bit of misalignment in the middle of the "bar" area, but if you put the doubling cube on the side, as is now considered "the right way," this is not an issue at all, because only the center or the bar has this misalignment. When you close the case, there is no problem. As is usual with old Crisloid sets, the handle was missing, and so I had a local handyman replace it. It is now cloth over heavy metal wire, which is similar to the original design.

Original American Folk Art. Oil on canvas, 1922, 11 by 15 inches, with hand-made stretcher bars.

Red, white, and blue "patriot" set with 1.5 inch diameter wood checkers (painted). There are 16 of each color. This is a custom made set and the case/board is very "heavy-duty." There is a flexible strap that holds it together during transportation. The board appears to be laminated wood with painted points. It seems to be circa 1960s.

This is a vintage, all original Crisloid. The only thing new is the handle, which had to be replaced (very common problem). The 30 near perfect bakelite checkers are a hair under 1.5 inches in diamater, and the painted cork board is in superb condition. Exterior is very good, with just some minor problems and some faint black lines on the cloth covering (it's material over some kind of wood or wood-like material). The case is very "heavy-duty," and as a consequence this set weighs a bit more than new sets of the same size. This is a complete set, possibly the first year Crisloid ever made a set, in incredible condition (I think the two red dice are bakelite too - the older, solid-color kind). A set similar to this one (same size/color & also a Crisloid), but with a cork board that appeared to have much more use, sold for $322.88 plus $24.99 for shipping on eBay recently (item # 230198661004). Note that on this more recent set (the one that sold for $3.22.88) there was cork in the dice cups' interior, and a considerable amount of it was missing.

This is a Cardinal set with catalin checkers. The brown checkers have great swirls, but so do the yellow ones, which is much less common. They are a hair under 1.5 inches in diameter. The dice cups have that nice "marbleized" look, and have the word "Cardinal" on the bottoms. The board is painted cork, and the handle was replaced after the first photo was taken. What is also not shown is the original doubling cube (painted wood) that came with it. The dice are missing but I will supply 4 replacement dice. The exterior has no major damage, and is in decent shape for its age (circa 1970s). Another Cardinal set (same size, color scheme, etc.), but with a damaged cork board, sold for $91 plus $11 shipping on eBay recently (see item number 230198901575).

This is a set that has the World Championship, 2007 color scheme (red and yellow checkers on a board with brown and white points). See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zAIgDC1ZoQ for example (if it's still available). The board is cork with painted points and there are two dice cups that are "marbelized" and with the Cardinal name on them. This also appears to be the same size as the World Championship set, as the checkers are a hair under 1.5 inches in diameter. The swirls in these bakelite checkers are great, which you cant see in the photos. A few of the checkers have very small chips in them, but you can't see the chips when you are playing. The exterior has some repaired tears and a one small patch - the original handle and latches are okay.

I have a pair of extra, new (never used) "pro" dice cups that I'd like to sell. $10 for the pair, plus shipping costs and any other costs (such as the eBay fees for a "buy it now auction"). I pay for the packaging materials and there are no "handling" fees.

This is a set with original bakelite checkers, dice, doubling cube, and handle (circa 1930s or 1940s). It is in great shape, all around. The checkers are just a hair under 1.5 inches across. There are two roll-up dice cups and some original paperwork that are not pictured. These items do have some wear to them. There are some faint lines on the cloth exterior - my guess is that it is some sort of number used to catalog this item. The board is cork or something like it, with painted points. On eBay recently, a set like this one, except with no bakelite handle and considerably smaller checkers (about 1.25 inches across) sold for $138.49 plus $11.33 shipping costs (item #190160114047).
